Crimea Church Parishes and Pastors

In the early years of the Crimea, there was only one Lutheran parish, and that was located at Neusatz. This parish encompassed the entire Crimean peninsula’s Lutheran colonies. However, as the number of colonies grew and became widely spread, new parishes were organized.

Zurichtal was the second parish and was a branch of Neusatz. This parish was formed in 1822.

Hochheim (Haimann or Naimann) was the third parish and was located in the far northeast portion of the Crimea in the Perekop district.

Djelal was the fourth parish to be formed and was located in western central Crimea in the Eupotoria district. The few Estonian Evangelical Lutheran congregations were served by the Pastor from Djelal.

Byten was the last Lutheran parish to be formed and it became a parish in 1912. Pastor Karl Hanson, who had also served in Djelal and then moved on to Arzis was called to this parish. This parish also emcompassed the Estonian Congregations.

Schönbrunn was a Separtist colony and became a parish in 1889. It was the head of the Separtist colonies until the deportations of the Crimean Germans after WWII.

The Catholic churches were originally a part of the Simperopol parish and in 1823 Rosental became the parish head.
