St. Petersburg Film Listings for Crimea and Taurien
In 1832, the Lutheran churches in Russia were formed into consistories or councils. The areas of the Taurien (which includes the Crimea), Bessarabia, Cherson, Jekaterinosslaw, and the Don Gebiet, among other regions, were included in the Consistory of St. Petersburg.
Parishes in the regions belonging to the consistory were required from 1833 on to make copies of their church records which included the records of births, deaths, and marriages that occurred in their parishes. The copies of these records were submitted on a yearly basis to the main consistory office in St. Petersburg. These records were compiled into books in St. Petersberg according to the main parish church for the region that compiled and submitted the information.
Several years ago, the LDS church micofilmed these records for the period of 1833-1885 and added them to their microfilm collection. These films can be ordered through the LDS church for research purposes. (Please note: Some of the years such as 1849 and 1870 were not filmed by the LDS because the books were being repaired at the time of filming and the repairs were not finished before the LDS completed their filming at the archive.)
