Bessarabian Research Books

[Bess RIG]

These files have been prepared for sharing with the GRHS membership.  They are not to be sold for profit nor posted on any personal website. A link to the public access areas of this website is however permitted.

It is intended that this page be used to point to books that the GRHS Bessarabian Researcher may want to utilize in their pursuit of researching their families.

We should take special note that the German families from Bessarabia who found themselves back in Germany after WW II, were able to organize and publish many books of interest to the GR Bessarabian researcher, via the leadership of Christian Fiess who organized the Bessarabian Museum.

Over the years there has been several Heimatbuchs and annual Heimat Kalenders published in Germany and by the Bessarabian Museum.  We have some work that has been done on a few of these and you can see that work on these links.

We have a listing of the books that were available for sale along with other materials at the Museum in Stuttgart in 1999.  Of course that booklist is worthy of review, but for the person who is interested in gaining copies of these materials must know that [1] as a whole the information contained is in the German, and [2] it is not easy to obtain copies via the mail or Internet.  Those who visit in the Stuttgart area should make a point to attempt to visit there during their open hours and check to see what they have for sale that you might be interested in.  A more current booklisting is maintained by the Museum and can be consulted if you desire.

We have a good start of an indexing [A-L M-Z] of several of these books [see listing of indexed books below] that the GRHS Bessarabian RIG member might want to consult during their research.  It is worthy to note that many of these books are in our collection at Headquarters in Bismarck.

As time goes on, we shall attempt to provide book reports/profiles on key books that are available that the Bessarabian researcher would be interested in using to aid their research.

If you have a book with a report you would like to provide for this listing, please contact us:
