The first Black Sea Germans from Scotland, South Dakota, reached Colorado. At that time colonists from Kherson established themselves at Burlington, Colorado. Their numbers were augmented in the following years, especially in 1890, when a group of Bessarabian Germans, likewise from Scotland, settled in the vicinity of present‑day Bethune Colorado.
